The aim of the Fashion & Materials program is to bring together a wide range of disciplines to support the environmental and social transition of the fashion and materials industry. The course seeks to produce students who are open and responsive to the many issues involved. They are invited to come up with suggestions that will help to transform practices.
The program has been designed as a platform for interdisciplinary experimentation, providing an opportunity to pool expertise in different areas and interact with the industry and civil society. The master’s degree program provides a forum in which students, research professors and industry professionals can move around and make connections. The modular approach enables students to join the program for a single course, a block of courses, a year or the full two-year master’s degree.
The decision to bring together “materials” and “fashion” is key to the program’s approach: recent progress in materials science and engineering puts textiles at the forefront of technology, and materials are central to the environmental transition. The master’s degree aims to give materials a primary role in user-oriented fashion design, which can be applied in fields from ready-to-wear to the luxury segment, as well as technical textiles and textiles for healthcare.
