Past History

This department was originally founded in February 1953 and belonged to the “Division of Industrial Arts Education” in the Department of Industrial Education, which was focused on the preparation of secondary school Industrial Arts teachers. In 1972, this division was renamed to the “Division of Industrial Technics Education” and became an independent department as the name of “Department of Industrial Arts Education” which was belonged to the College of Fine Arts. In 1991, a Master´s degree program was built. In 1994, its name was changed to the “Department of Industrial Technology Education”, aimed at preparing secondary school technology teachers as well as professionals for human resource development in business and industry. In 1988, this department belonged to the College of Technology, which was a newly founded college, and a PhD degree program was set up in this department. In 2009, the name was formally changed to the Department of Technology Application and Human Resource Development, fully devotes to prepare the professionals for human resource development in technology and industries. At present, the department has undergraduate, master, in-service master program, and PhD Programs.

Prospects

After the announcement of the Teacher Preparation Law, every university can apply for the teacher preparation program and educate teachers for elementary and secondary schools. During the process of educational reforms, the National Taiwan Normal University still followed the tradition and ideal of developing teachers for secondary schools; therefore, this department still focused on developing technology teachers for living technology curriculum in secondary schools. In recent years, the National Taiwan Normal University focused on moving from a teacher preparation university to a comprehensive university, and the Department of Technology Application and Human Resource Development also focused on training excellent talents in technology education and human resource development by following the excellent tradition of teacher education, developing a diverse curriculum framework, and integrating theory with practices in the industry. Meanwhile, this department also focused on developing information and communication technology talents by making good use of our superiority in facing the coming of the information age.

Goals

In order to increase more job opportunities to our graduates, this department was renamed to Department of Technology Application and Human Resource Development from 2009. For the Bachelor´s degree, the curriculum was divided into two divisions, which are the “Division of Learning and Technology” and the “Division of Design and Technology”, to develop excellent technology teachers for technology education and human resources development specialists for industry. For the Master degree, the curriculum was divided into the three divisions, which are the “Division of Technology and Engineering Education”, the “Division of Human Resource” and the “Division of Web-based Learning”, to develop graduate students’ professional competency and research abilities in different learning fields. For the PhD degree, the curriculum was divided into two divisions, which are the “Division of Technology and Engineering” and the “Division of Human Resource”, to develop professional teaching and research talents.
