Language majors are urged to broaden their studies to include other modern or classical languages. French, Italian or Spanish majors may double major in International Studies, another language or any other area of study. Education Majors Students pursuing BS degrees in Early Childhood Education and in Childhood Education may choose a concentration in Spanish. A concentration in Spanish consists of 10 courses (30 credits), 8 of which must be at the 300 or 400 level. Students pursuing BA degrees in Adolescence Education must complete all the requirements for the Spanish major, which include the requisite 9 courses (27 credits) at the 300 or 400 level, as well as the 33 credits in Education. General Objectives for Minor/Major Courses in Foreign Languages To attain at least Advanced Low (according to standards set out by the American Council for the Teaching of Foreign Languages, ACTFL) level in A. reading, B. writing, C. aural comprehension, and D. speaking To use critical skills to analyze literary and cultural texts logically, fairly, and insightfully To use research skills to support literary and cultural analyses To understand the perspectives of at least two cultures (including American culture).
