To succeed in an increasingly interconnected world, you need a global perspective: a lens for understanding different cultures within our rapidly changing political and economic landscape. Iona?s International Studies major provides an interdisciplinary exploration of the world, helping you develop cross-cultural awareness and the skills necessary for a career in today?s global marketplace. The International Studies major draws from four key areas of study: Political Science History Economics Foreign Language As an International Studies student, you?ll have the opportunity to study with faculty from a variety of departments, find internships and study abroad. You?ll gain the tools to follow and assess current political and economic events and changes, equipped with the historical and cultural context essential for understanding these events. Drawing on our location just 20 miles north of midtown Manhattan, one of the world?s global centers, we expose our students to the wider world right here at home. And we provide abundant opportunities to study and learn in locations abroad. You?ll graduate feeling comfortable as a citizen of the world, prepared for a wide variety of careers in some of today?s most challenging and exciting fields. Upon completion of the International Studies major students will: Develop critical thinking skills that would allow them to see the intellectual connections between disciplinary fields in their area of concentration. Develop an awareness of diverse peoples, cultures, and ideas, and appreciate the importance of engaging in ongoing interdisciplinary learning to become informed, engaged, and responsible global citizens. Career paths of our recent alumni have included Government: public policy, intelligence service, diplomacy, politics Business: banking, global finance, import/export businesses, consulting Tourism: development, marketing Law: corporate, government, public interest, NGOs Journalism and media: research, editorial, news Education and Social services Religious and volunteer organizations
