Our PhD programme is designed to train outstanding PhD candidates for careers in research and teaching at academic institutions all-around the world. PhD candidates will focus on one of five distinct fields of study: Economics, Econometrics and Management Science, Applied Economics, Finance & Accounting, and Marketing. In a nutshell the PhD programme provides excellent training, support and research facilities via one of our Graduate Schools: the Erasmus Research Institute of Management (ERIM) and the Tinbergen Institute. Through this programme, students will also receive personal supervision by top researchers and also paid PhD positions. The duration of this program is 3 to 4 years depending on previous education.

You have an MPhil, MSc or MA degree in Economics, Econometrics, Business or a related field (depending on the PhD project). Applicants with an MPhil or Research Master’s degree will be preferred. The Master’s programme should have been completed before the start of the PhD programme and you are expected to have obtained excellent results in your first degree / undergraduate study. You will need to show your skills by either a GMAT-test (Graduate Management Admission Test) or GRE-test (Graduate Record Examinations). In addition to these formal requirements, candidates for Erasmus School of Economics PhD programme are selected on the basis of their CV, grades, academic references, and interview(s) with the potential supervisor(s).
