The Department of Adult & Continuing Education was established in 1955.

The master’s program was set up in 1985, and was followed by the doctoral program in 1995. The undergraduate program encompasses four major areas: Creative Design for Adult Learning, Program Design and Media Production, Innovation and Diffusion of Social and Cultural Industries and Organizational Learning and Management.

The master’s program has two subfields: one is Adult and Continuing Education and the other is Management of Social Enterprises and Cultural Industries. An extension program is provided for adult learners from social education institutions, non-profit organizations and school systems.

The educational goal of this department aims at cultivating students with “humanitarian spirit”, “social responsibility” and “cultural perspectivism” for social education, social advocacy and educational leadership in the evolving and globalizing society. And the educational vision is embodied in the pursuit of “excellent faculty”, “rigorous curriculum”, “multiple career development” and “professional competence” to ensure a high quality of education.

In the professional development field, professional competence to be developed includes project management, public relations and social marketing, administration and management, educational program design, cultural and festival management, guided tour narration, and media application. Besides, when talking about the students’ career and employment, the department is characterized by cultivating professionals in social education institutions, cultural and social enterprises, non-profit organizations, and human resources development and management, etc.
