Healthcare systems worldwide face complicated challenges. Policymakers want to retain or improve access to good-quality healthcare, but they also want to keep systems affordable for patients and taxpayers. Meanwhile, healthcare expenditure is increasing, demographics are changing, expectations are higher and expensive new treatments are becoming available.
What are the causes of the problems systems face? What are the solutions? Take a multidisciplinary approach that combines legal, economic, managerial, and political thinking. See how countries balance efficiency and equity in their systems. Explore the impact that the European Union and other international bodies are having on healthcare systems. The master's programme is internationally oriented and aims to attract students from all over the world.
This MSc programme, the only one of its kind in Europe, offers you:
  • The opportunity to learn the skills and acquire the knowledge required to solve the challenges facing healthcare systems. You will use the knowledge of economics, public administration and law to be able to analyse and understand health policy issues.
  • The chance to work with some of the world’s leading research groups and analyse actual developments.
  • Career opportunities: jobs in government, with health insurers, consultancy firms, in the pharmaceutical industry, healthcare organisations, and in international organisations like the World Bank, the World Health Organisation, the European Commission, or at universities.
Target audience
Erasmus University Rotterdam's master's programme Health Economics, Policy & Law is intended for motivated students who wish to understand healthcare systems and health issues from different disciplinary perspectives. The programme is open to students with a bachelor degree in a relevant subject, on their way to a promising career in health management.
