Oral health therapy students graduate with dual qualifications in dental hygiene and dental therapy. There is a strong focus on developing skills to prevent disease and manage oral health conditions with an adult restorative scope of practice. In their first year, students will receive instruction in biomedical sciences, head & neck and professional practice and will be introduced to oral health in society and oral health therapy in clinical practice. The remaining two years will be devoted to the development of advanced treatment planning and sound clinical reasoning, critical appraisal and clinical practice. You will complete a minimum of 1,500 hours of practical experience over three years. You’ll participate in clinical placements offered at the Westmead Centre for Oral Health, Sydney Dental Hospital, Nepean Dental Health Clinic and other Local Health District dental hospitals.

A secondary education qualification such as the NSW Higher School Certificate (including national and international equivalents), OR approved higher education study, including approved preparation courses. Successful applicants must provide evidence that they hold a current approved First Aid Certificate during the Bachelor of Oral Health orientation week. Before you attend a placement in a NSW Ministry of Health facility, you will need to meet certain requirements to be verified by the NSW Ministry of Health to ensure your safety and that of other students, staff and patients. You are expected to have studied the following subjects in high school to succeed in this course: Biology and/or Chemistry.
