To major in Computer Science, a USF student should have successfully completed four years of high school mathematics, including the equivalent of two years of algebra and the basic elements of plane geometry and trigonometry. Deficiencies in a student’s high school mathematics background may be fulfilled by successfully taking the equivalent mathematics prerequisites at USF. The department takes a practical approach to computer science, emphasizing software development based on sound engineering principles. Classes are held in the newly constructed Lo Schiavo Center for Science and Innovation. The small class sizes and lecture-lab setting provides students with hands-on experience and plenty of one-on-one attention from professors. Our students graduate prepared for graduate school and computer-oriented careers in business, science, engineering, systems development, and related fields.
