This programme will give you both practical experience and academic insight into several areas of intensive care paediatrics. You will learn the theory behind current approaches, whilst also exploring the latest research that is driving the speciality forward. This focus makes the programme of value to both general paediatricians and potential intensivists.

You will learn about the theory and practice of paediatric intensive care medicine (PICM), covering general issues, cardiac critical care and transport of the critically ill child. Content includes topics from UK and international PICM curricula, and will help towards building the knowledge and understanding required to undertake the European Paediatric/Neonatal Intensive Care professional qualification.  

Students undertake modules to the value of 180 credits.

The programme consists of four core modules (60 credits), four optional modules (60 credits) and a research dissertation (60 credits).

Upon successful completion of 180 credits, you will be awarded a MSc in Paediatrics and Child Health: Intensive Care.

Medically qualified applicants should have post-qualification experience in paediatrics or child health. Non-medically qualified applicants should normally have a minimum of an upper second-class UK Bachelor's degree or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard, and several years' specialist experience of working in hospitals, community child health or public health services for children and families.
