Students may major in French, in Spanish, or in Italian Studies. Our students often complete a second major in a discipline such as International Relations, Economics, Biology, History, Psychology, Fine Arts, I.L.V.S., or another branch of the Humanities or social sciences. The departmental honors program provides the opportunity for especially qualified students in French, in Spanish, or in Italian Studies to write a senior honors thesis (of roughly 50 to 75 pages) in close cooperation with a faculty adviser. The project usually bears two course credits, each of which may count toward the major as a 100-level literature course. FR 22, or equivalent. FR 31 and 32, or equivalent. Four "100-level" courses in literature. Two "100-level" courses to be selected from among the various course offerings in advanced language and culture, including FR 121, 122, 124, 125, and all 100-level French courses unless specified otherwise, or their equivalents, or up to two additional 100-level courses in French literature. One course taught in any language in a related field, or one additional 100-level course in French language and culture or literature.
