Southeast Asia is an ancient land of humans with long lasting cultural prosperity from prehistoric times to the modern era. It is a land between the ancient civilizations of the Eastern world, China and India and as well an important strategic route between the Pacific Ocean. It is therefore a connecting point of South Asia, East Asia and the border around the Pacific Ocean. Nowadays, Southeast Asia has been integrated into the ASEAN organization, thus becoming a region that is undergoing rapid and violent changes both in politics, administration, economy, society and culture. It also tends to have to build a network of relationships to be more firm to be able to compete with other regions in the global society. Thus, knowledge of Southeast Asia and ASEAN organizations is an essential factor in communicating and building relationships between Thailand and its neighbors in the region, and with other countries at the international level.
Recognizing such importance, the Southeast Asian Studies Program aims to produce graduates who are knowledgeable in an interdisciplinary manner, combining knowledge of politics, government, economy, society, arts and culture, and regional languages, as well as having the ability to communicate in English language fluently. This is to create a new group of personnel with expertise in regional studies, marking the new step in the production of human resources for the country and the modern world society.
