Here at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg, we have created the unique study programme MPE that brings together central content from mechanical engineering and process engineering. The course is designed so that graduates can use the skills they have learned directly in their professional lives. Concerning the employability, we do not have only large corporations in mind, we are also aware of the need in small and medium sized enterprises.

In the study programme MPE, we have placed one emphasis on the teaching of engineering technical fundamentals so that you can seamlessly merge the prior knowledge you gained at the universities where you earned your bachelor's degree with the German engineering mindset. We want to make sure that you speak the same technical language as your German educated colleagues with our specially designed courses “TRAINING IN…”. On top of the theoretical education, we offer furthermore practical and application-oriented engineering classes, where you can apply and deepen the knowledge you have acquired so far.

Another important component of the MPE programme are modules in which you are familiarized with the state-of-the-art simulation tools of mechanical and process engineering. The program includes modules on flow simulation (CFD), strength calculation (DEM) and process simulation. Here you are trained both theoretically and with practical exercises in the simulation application. The study programme as a whole also incorporates didactic concepts in the area of project-based learning, in which from the second semester onwards you can apply your skills in small projects, mainly as group work. As a small university, we are able to offer excellent supervision here: In the module project work you always have a contact person who accompanies you professionally through your project. Here we expect of course, since you are finally in the master study, also independent engineering technical work.

In today's world, economic skills and knowledge are also important for engineers. Therefore, especially in the area of elective courses, we have a wide range of modules from our faculty of economics that are designed to give you skills in industrial engineering.

The process engineering content accompanies the mechanical engineering content throughout the four semesters of the MPE program. TU Bergakademie Freiberg, being the University of Resources in Germany and among the leading resources universities in Europe and worldwide, we have put our emphasis in the MPE programme on secondary raw materials and recycling. We will continue to expand this topical orientation continuously in the coming years so that you can develop a comprehensive knowledge of recycling technologies as part of the MPE program along with your mechanical engineering skills (design and construction). Thus, you will also be able to develop and evaluate a design for recycling.

Within the scope of the master thesis, you will be integrated into our research activities and you can apply your acquired knowledge to practical projects and contribute to a scientific solution of an engineering problem. In this context, it is important to us that we integrate you into our application-oriented research at the latest with the master thesis.

The modules are all taught in English language. We are currently also in the process of supporting the face-to-face teaching with digital content, such as special summaries, screencasts, lecture recordings or special digital self-tests. Due to the high number of practical courses the study program MPE requires your presence in person in Freiberg and the digital content aims at supporting your self-learning and repetition of the course contents.

Due to the amount of engineering content, we offer (120 ECTS points) in the MPE programme, we have not included a mandatory internship as part of the program. However, we recommend that you use a semester off for a voluntary internship (e.g. six months). There are suitable opportunities in the German industry locally and nationwide.

As the study program includes basic German language training as a compulsory module (German A1 or higher), however, we recommend that you study German more intensively during your studies, especially if you are planning to work in Germany after graduation. The TU Bergakademie Freiberg will enable you to take German courses that build on each other for the entire duration of your studies.
