Training of students in the chemical field for several years, 2013-2018, was carried out at the chemical department, which is part of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, later reorganized into the Faculty of Biology and Chemistry. At this time, three departments functioned: analytical, organic and inorganic, physical chemistry.

In September 2018, the faculty was renamed into the Faculty of Chemistry, which now has five departments: "Analytical Chemistry", "Inorganic Chemistry and Materials Science", "Organic Synthesis and Bioorganic Chemistry", "Physical and Colloidal Chemistry" and "Chemistry of Polymers and Chemical Technology".

The faculty is training bachelors in the specialties of “Chemistry”, “Chemical technology” and “Materials science and chemistry of new materials”. In the specialties “Chemistry” preparing masters, as well as doctoral students prepare for 6 specialties: "02.00.01-Inorganic Chemistry", "02.00.02-Analytical Chemistry", "02.00.03-Organic Chemistry", "02.00.04-Physical Chemistry", "02.00.06-High-Molecular Compounds" and "02.00.12- Nanochemistry, nanophysics and nanotechnology”.

Samarkand State University in Uzbekistan was established in 1927, closely linked to the Temurids period and Ulughbek's Academy. It reflects the rich history and achievements of the period, including its history, science, education, architecture, art and culture.  
Located in the city of Samarkand in eastern Uzbekistan, Samarkand State University – also known simply as SamSU – offers students over 30 bachelor’s study areas and more than 40 master’s degree programmes. It’s one of the oldest and largest higher educational establishments in Uzbekistan: though it was officially inaugurated as the University beginning of the 20th century, its roots go back to the Ulughbek period. 
Thanks to its illustrious reputation, dozens of major state, cultural and scientific figures, writers and poets have emerged from the university during its lifetime. Samarkand State University also has a publishing wing, which produces the journal SamSU Scientific Bulletin, published six times a year in Russian and Uzbek.
