About Samarkand State University
Samarkand State University is a famous and classical higher educational institution not only in Uzbekistan but also, in many countries of the world. Formal establishment of the university is dates back to the Soviet period in 1927, its formation and origination as a higher education status is closely linked to Temurids period, especially, Ulughbek's Academy, its rich history and achievements, including the history of science and education, art and culture, architectural constructions.
We can proud that our great generations, such as: Mirzo Ulughbek, Qizizoda Rumi, Ali Kushchi, Giyosiddin Kashi, Alisher Navoi, Abdurahmon Jami, who raised the education and culture in Samarkand and established higher educational establishment on basis of world civilization and rich heritage. One of such higher education institutions, Samarkand State University has been preparing thousands of specialists and highly qualified personnel for the national economy of Uzbekistan for a long time.
Samarkand State University was founded on January 22,1927 by the Decision of the Government of Uzbekistan with the name of the Higher Pedagogical Institute (1927-1933), transformed into the Uzbek State Pedagogical Academy (1930- 1933) in 1930 and State University of Uzbekistan in 1933 (1933-1941). In 1944, Uzbek State University was reorganized into the Central Asian University (now the National University of Uzbekistan) in connection with the Second World War and State University of Uzbekistan was renamed in 1944 (1944-1960), and since 1960 the University is called as “Samarkand State University”.
Currently, about 13000 students are studying at 34 directions (BS) and 40 specialized MS degree, 63 chairs at 14 faculties of Samarkand State University. They have being taught about 850 professor-teachers, including 4 academicians of Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, 81 doctors of science and 311 candidates of science. There are more than 40 professions in the field of philosophy (PhD) and Doctor of Sciences (DсS) and a series of scientific councils are working. There are 3 mln. including more than 15,000 rare books and Oriental manuscripts and as well as 3 academic lyceums, 4 museums, one green house and 2 unique devices are activating at the university.
In order to ensure the continuous operation of the educational process, the scientific-methodical magazine "Samarkand State University Scientific Bulletin" and the newspaper "Samarkand University" are periodically published, there is a printing house for editing and publishing educational and scientific literature.
During the years of independence, 19 university students have awarded with “President” stipend, 98 students are awarded with state stipends and 9 students have been awarded with “Zulfiya” State Prize. 7 students were world champions, 57 students were champions of Asia, and more than 170 students champion of Uzbekistan, more than 300 students became universiade champions and winners. One of professors of the university was awarded with the title "Great services", 3 were "El-yurt hurmati (Honour of people)" 3 of them were awarded with the order "Mehnat Shuhrati", 2 were awarded with "Shukhrat" Medal, 2 of them were "Honored Worker of Uzbekistan" and 5 were awarded "Honored Trainer of Youth in Uzbekistan".
Samarkand State University is an active participant of reforms in education and science in Uzbekistan, combining teaching and learning processes, raising the competitiveness of trained personnel, introducing advanced pedagogical technologies, maintaining and prioritizing scientific researches.

University information
SamarkandState University offers undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate programs for a wide range of majors. Furthermore some faculties have full-time or part-time undergraduate studies.
The applicants enroll to undergraduate and graduate programs according to the results of the entrance examinations tests authorized by State Test Cemter . These test dates starts from mid-July and ends until mid-August. Applicants who seek undergraduate and graduate degree may apply for the programs online. The application fee is required only for individuals who are not graduating current academic year. Application waiver is available for designated group of students (disabled, low-income, etc.).
To pursue postgraduate study at SamSU , applicants need to apply to the departmental programs.
The internationalapplicants also required an application form, photocopy of a passport, diploma and transcript (officially translated). Evaluation of foreign applicants is based on their interview results.
Scholarships are available for undergraduate, graduate students. Share of scholarships based students varies by majors. Foreign students have to pay a tuition fee. All postgraduate studies are scholarship based.

Samarkand State University (SamSU) is one of the most ancient and largest universities in Uzbekistan. About 26,000 students from various regions of Central Asia study at SamSU.
Thestructure of the university includes 18 faculties, including an international education center, a preparatory department, a language center, and a number of scientific and educational laboratories. The Information and Resource Center (SamSU Library) named after Abdurakhman Zhomi is one of the best among universities in Uzbekistan and has 3.5 million items.

The Samarkand State University is one of the world’s leading multidisciplinary University. Thousands of scientists, laboratory technicians and research students working on its lushly landscaped campus embark daily on fascinating journeys into the unknown, seeking to improve our understanding of nature and our place within it.
The campus is beautiful – it is host to a wide range of interesting and unusual vegetation from around the world, architectural styles from the last 6-7 decades and sculptures integrated throughout. From the recently renovated International Center and museums, there are guided tours (walking), you can visit the Boulevard, Samarkand State University kitchens, stop for a bite to eat at one of the café’s and spend a wonderful day.

Student life
Today SamSU named after Sh. Rashidov is educating the future of the country - a generation that will independently conduct and manage important sectors of the national economy, on which the future of Uzbekistan will depend. The university has created favorable conditions for education of citizens of many nationalities and ethnic groups. More than 40 nationalities study at the university.
SamSU actively supports and implements the principle of social partnership between students and the faculty and administration of the university, where participants act as equal partners, participating in all university processes and sharing responsibility for achieving common goals. As one of the mechanisms for managing partnerships, the university implements such important documents as the Regulations on the teaching staff, the Rules of Etiquette of the teaching staff and students of SamSU, the Code of Corporate Culture of teaching staff and employees, the Rules of honor for students of SamSU.
The University has a Committee of Youth Organizations, an association of all student organizations and interest clubs. Club forms of work with students allow you to direct the energy of students in a positive direction. Such activity is widely used in the best universities of the world, and SamSU implements it. More than 100 student clubs are actively functioning at SamSU, and a large number of universities take an active part in their work. These are patriotic clubs, professional and scientific clubs, amateur performance clubs, sports clubs, school management, social educational, psychological and entertainment clubs.
During the academic year, a "Vacant Fair" is held for students of SamSU, and since this year, the Center for Assistance in Employment has begun its activities at SamSU.
The administration operates a department that protects the rights of students and provides support in solving academic problems. The priority for the organization is the trust of students. The department strives to organize a policy of openness to comments and suggestions regarding the quality of education at the university.
SamSU Youth Students Association is an independent, permanent and individual member of the university, created on the basis of free will and professional interests of citizens to implement the rights and legitimate interests: creating a healthy and safe learning environment, creating conditions for creative and productive work and learning, creating opportunities for rehabilitation, treatment and recreation, improvement of living conditions; provision of employment policy. The Association brings together progressive, creative, patriotic youth and innovative social projects. The purpose of the student association is to represent the interests of students before the university administration, to strengthen and improve the image of the university at the interuniversity, national and international levels, to organize systematic work and events in priority functional areas of social activity. Life, to promote self-realization and development of managerial skills among students, increase the effectiveness of the educational process at the university, the formation of an active life and citizenship of students, the promotion of a healthy lifestyle, the organization of systematic work to improve the mechanisms of student self-government at the faculty and university levels.
There are 6 student dormitories in SamSU, in each of which separate student groups of activists operate. These groups maintain order and cleanliness in the dormitory, and also hold promotions on various topics to interest students and make life in the dormitory brighter and richer. Patriotically minded students are actively involved in volunteer work to help socially vulnerable groups of the population. At leisure, students take part in sports competitions, participate in various sports, environmental, scientific projects and events.
The department for organizing research activities of gifted students develops and implements various projects in order to improve the methodological preparation of students, develop their creative thinking and research abilities, and promote the study of the basics of organizing and conducting scientific research at the university. The scientific work of students is carried out in close connection with the educational process, scientific, innovative and inventive work of the university. To this end, throughout the year, students take part in various start-ups, competitions organized by the SamSU
Incubation Center. The SamSU Information ResourceCenter provides students with the necessary information and sources. At leisure, students can visit the library, as well as in the spirituality rooms created in the dormitories, read and prepare lessons. Reading competitions are also regularly held. The purpose of this is to increase the level of knowledge of students, the training of scientific personnel.
IRC SamSU comprehensively supports and conducts cultural and educational events with students. The Department for Combating Corruption and Managing the Compliance Control System is actively operating at SamSU. The main goal of this department is to eradicate corruption in the education system, create an environment of general rejection of corruption through the education system, create all conditions for the education and upbringing of patriotic and competitive youth. In recent years, SamSU students have been actively participating in various sports competitions of the republican and world scale.
University students became repeated winners of the competitions between universities of the Republic, took part and became medalists of the Olympics and world championships. The University is implementing a project to teach languages. Classes are held in classrooms and hostels. Language clubs have been created, where experienced professionals work. Additional classes are held in English, Russian and Chinese, Korean, Japanese and other languages. More than 100 scientific and professional circles operate at the university, which are aimed at improving the quality of life of students, developing moral values and ethical standards.
In addition, intellectual games "Zakovat" are organized so that students can productively spend extracurricular time. Debates are regularly organized for university students. These debates not only increase students' creativity, but also encourage them to think scientifically.
This is one of the effective ways of self-employment. Psychological trainings are held on campus at the initiative of psychology students and faculty.
These and other activities contribute to the development of independent thinking, contributes to the development of the psychological qualities and skills of the student.
