Istituto Europeo di Design is an international Group with a proudly local outlook and it is located in 3 countries: in Italy in Milan , Cagliari, Florence , Rome , Turin and Accademia di Belle Arti Aldo Galli in Como ; Barcelona , Madrid and Bilbao in Spain and Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo in Brazil.

IED student training experience is based on the educational concept according to which knowledge and know-how must grow together. Students have access to traditional, modern, and innovative tools, labs, libraries, and workspaces fosters our students' creative and intellectual growth.. IED facilities help students nurture their academic, and intellectual growth, expanding their chance for deep research and practice.
IED has a total of 20 campuses. Surroundings can be inspiring and great opportunities for students to connect with the environment. That’s why every IED building is based in a concurrent yet creative neighborhood, where students can interact with its population and find solutions that can create a positive impact in their everyday life thanks to design.
These facilities are designed to offer hands-on experience that is relevant and inspiring. The classrooms are equipped with the tools required for training and research in multidisciplinary teams; and all labs feature high-tech equipment to support the education courses and individual training. Students are encouraged to use the common areas and open spaces to study or socialize.
Design is a discipline that students must learn hands-on. For this reason IED offers a wide range of labs for students to practice and develop their ideas into the final prototype:
- Fashion labs with all kind of sewing machines, cut and sew areas, cutting leather spaces, ironing stations;
- Jewelry Labs are dedicated to the development of prototypes and models equipped with portable power tools and fixed machines (presses, drills and milling cutters, etc.);
- Video and Media Lab s with portable production equipment reservations, including digital still, video, and audio equipment;
- Fab labs with all kind of tools and equipments such as 3D Printers, laser cutters, woodworking… guided with technicians and facility managers that helps and assist students to produce their best work;
- Sound labs , studies wit equipments for recording, listening and production sound;
- Interactive Labs are environments where students can investigate new media formats with different kind of video, spaces and sound formats, as well as new technologies such as Virtual Reality, Extended Reality or Augmented Reality;
- Rendering Lab are spaces where students can work with softwares that allow them to envision their designs in a digital space in order to create solutions even for the metaverse;
- Photostudio where photography professionals can use for digital and analogue shoots with the different light effects assets. There is also a high-quality dark room allowing students to gain experience in developing and printing their own analogue photographies in Fine-Art quality.
- Modeling Lab allow students to check their project hypothesis and use the technical tools required for the experimentation, representation and communication of projects. In this lab there are different areas: the traditional area (band saw, lathe, sander and boring machine for wood), fast modeling area (with machines for manufacturing polyurethane and Styrofoam), the prototyping area (with a CNC – numerical control machine, laser cutter and a vacuum machine), 3D prototyping area, mechatronics area (Arduino platform) and painting area. Machines and equipment are used under the supervision of lab technicians and assistants.
Each school has its own Library and Archive providing access to collections, services, and spaces up do date in quality, depth, diversity, format, and currency to support the research and teaching missions.

Frequently Asked Questions
The first step is to verify the language requirements and academic requirements.
Different courses have different requirements based on the course you would like to undertake. If you wish to study in IED and you want to apply for undergraduate courses we are glad to inform you that all our undergraduate programs start from scratch, you are going to learn everything from the bases, there is no need to be already skilled to attend our UG courses, the most important thing is to show us your passion and motivation. For the Master courses, there are other requirements depending on the course.
For specific master programs, IED might require additional application documents including a portfolio and an Essay, but there are some programmes that introduce you in a short period of time to a new field of design without need of previous knowledge.
As part of your application, for some of our postgraduate programs, you are asked to provide a digital portfolio that summarizes your creative identity. The portfolio will allow you to show the most relevant parts of your personality through your work. You will document your creative work across various fields, through pictures and a set of keywords or a short introductory text (500 words maximum).
Your portfolio can include drawings/illustrations, graphic design projects, photos, videos, and any documentation regarding your own interests. IED is more interested in the creative process and method used, rather than the end result. Make sure to include it as well on the portfolio.
The creative pieces of work you choose should indicate your creative potential and, if possible, provide some insight into your chosen area of study.
The creation of a visual framework is highly appreciated (presentation or slideshow).
For many years, IED has been involved in supporting the most motivated and brilliant students, by providing scholarships, grants, and bursaries based on merit and financial eligibility. We support young creatives through a dedicated set of scholarships, promotions, and financial aid. Scholarships are awarded on the merits to particularly deserving and motivated students, usually evaluated through the submission of project work, These scholarships can cover up to 100% of the tuition fee.
International students should start to look for their program approximately 12 or 6 months before starting their studies, to collect enough information and all the required documents. The application is entirely online, We have three different intakes October, January and April based on the typology of the program you would like to attend. Although enrolments are open until the above-mentioned intakes, to comply with the Ministerial entry requirements and its strict quality level, and to guarantee effective interaction among teaching staff and students, IED has a restricted number of available places. To ensure a place in the class, students must have completed the enrolment procedure. Therefore, we strongly suggest starting the application process as soon as possible.
The Career Service office is available to companies wishing to recruit young creatives from IED: recent graduates and Master’s students, but also former students who are now experienced professionals, through continuous collaboration with the IED Alumni office.
The Career Service submits CVs and portfolios according to recruitment requirements, supports businesses in the selection of candidates, organizes interviews, and sets up training internships. Every year, in order to bring businesses and potential candidates together, the Career Service organizes one or more Career Days in which recent graduates are introduced to the companies for the first time and other selection sessions that include project activities to test the aptitude and skill of graduates directly in the field with real briefs.
On the other hand, the IED Alumni office fosters synergies between students and many kinds of companies offering job opportunities.
