This course is a hands-on, practical-focused course which offers a broad training in the understanding of the brain and nervous system at multiple scales from the microscopic to the whole organism in both health and disease. Students will also spend time working on the most up to date equipment and techniques in neuroscience research. The placement year involves a professional work placement between the second and final years of the degree.  The aim of the placement year is to expose students to a real working environment and boost their future employment prospects. Aston neuroscience students will have access to a wide range of state-of-the-art facilities including: A newly refurbished dedicated neuroscience laboratory equipped with multiple neuroscience recording set ups, to allow intracellular and extracellular recording of brain cells in vitro, as well as receptor pharmacology experiments; Access to psychology, biology and pharmacology laboratories; Biopac systems for measuring human physiology and EEG for cognitive neuroscience projects.
