Studying Geography and International Relations will give you a comprehensive understanding of the complex relationships between people, places, politics, and the planet. This course will enable you to analyse global issues from both spatial and political perspectives. You'll gain the tools to tackle challenges like climate change, migration, conflict and globalisation in a holistic way.

As a student, you’ll join the Department of Geography in our School of Global Studies, home to leading academics who are shaping policy. You will learn from experts who influence global debates on topics such as poverty, inequality, climate change and migration. You’ll also have access to our enhanced careers support.

You’ll have a choice of local and global field-trip destinations, giving you the opportunity to take your learning out into the field. Recent destinations have included the Mojave Desert, Los Angeles, China, Corsica and Greece. Plus our setting – within the South Downs National Park – means you’ll have the opportunity to take your learning out into the field on your doorstep.

By studying at Sussex, you will:

  • gain a deeper understanding of how geographical factors shape political decisions and international relations
  • deepen your understanding of global issues through debates with industry speakers
  • gain the knowledge to develop informed, practical solutions to complex geopolitical issues.

You’ll be able to further enhance your skills by choosing our optional work experience module available in year 3.

You’ll graduate with a specialised skill set that is valuable across various careers. This includes skills in research, data analysis and critical thinking all essential for roles in government and non-government organisations.
