Ever wondered why a bride wears white or why we wear black to a funeral in the United States? This is typical of what sociology majors investigate. Sociology is the study of people in the context of the groups in which they live. Family and community groups have a strong impact on people's behaviors, attitudes, values and patterns of thought. Gender, race, social class and other groups to which people belong play a major role as well. The study of sociology helps students better understand these groups and how group membership influences them. Requirements for the Undergraduate Major in Sociology The undergraduate major of 33 hours must include the following: SOC 2000 ProSeminar in Sociology I, 1 hour SOC 3270 Social Research Methods, 3 hours SOC 3290 Social Statistics, 3 hours SOC 4000 ProSeminar in Sociology II, 2 hours SOC 4040 Classical Theory, 3 hours 21 additional elective hours of sociology courses, at least 15 of which must be at the 3000 or 4000 level. Students should discuss their personal and professional interests with the undergraduate adviser before selecting elective courses to complete the major.

Bachelor UG

Founded in 1872, UT is one of fifteen comprehensive, publicly funded universities in the state of Ohio. Located in northwest Ohio, the University offers undergraduate, graduate, law, medical, and English Language programs with over 1,600 full and part-time faculty members. Recently we merged with the Medical College of Ohio, which makes us one of only a handful of public institutions with colleges of business, education, engineering, law, medecine, and pharmacy. The Offices of International Admission and International Student Services at the University provide a wide variety of services to the more than 1,000 international students, faculty and staff at UT. Members of these offices evaluate all international applications for admission to undergraduate study, conduct orientation programs, assist students in finding suitable housing, offer immigration counseling services, and provide intensive English instruction through the American Language Institute.
