Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in the United States or its equivalent from a foreign institution. Applicants should hold a bachelor's degree in mathematics, applied mathematics or another branch of science or engineering. You should also have completed coursework in: Calculus series (advanced calculus and/or real analysis strongly recommended but not required) AND Differential equations AND Linear algebra AND Numerical analysis or scientific computing (you should have the ability to program in Matlab, C, C++, Python, Fortran, or a similar scientific computing language).

The University of Washington offers around 180 undergraduate majors, and class sizes are typically below 100. Applications for enrolling the following autumn open on 1 September every year. You’ll need to apply online and pay an application fee. As well as submitting your SAT/ACT test scores and completed writing section (including personal statement), international students will need to submit proof of their English language proficiency and their high school transcript. Tuition fees for international undergraduate students are currently $34,926 per year. 

The University of Washington offers more than 370 graduate programs, offered through its three campuses as well as online. To apply, you should submit your application via the UW’s graduate school. You will require the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, as well as a master’s if you’re applying for a PhD
  • At least a 3.0 GPA or equivalent – some graduate programs may require a higher GPA
  • Proof of English proficiency, if it’s not your first language 
There may be additional requirements depending on your chosen major.

The graduate school recommends that international students budget $26,898 per calendar year for living costs on top of their tuition fees. To help fund your studies, all students are eligible to take part in assistantships.
