The University of Jordan (UJ), established in 1962 by a Royal Decree, is Jordan's largest and first university. Located in the capital city of Amman, UJ has developed into a leading global educational institution, known for its commitment to excellence and diversity in academic offerings. UJ offers a comprehensive range of academic programs across 25 schools, encompassing over 280 programs, including bachelor's, higher diploma, master's, higher specialization in Medicine and Dentistry, and doctoral degrees. The university has earned international accreditation for 48 programs in 11 schools, including Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, Dentistry, Engineering, Information Technology, Agriculture, Rehabilitation, Foreign Languages, Business, and Natural Sciences. These programs meet rigorous global standards, ensuring that graduates are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in their respective fields. At the undergraduate level, UJ offers 102 programs across disciplines such as Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, Rehabilitation Sciences, Sciences, Agriculture, Engineering, Information Technology, Arts, Business Administration, Sharia, Educational Sciences, Law, Sports Sciences, Arts and Design, International Studies, Politics, Foreign Languages, and Tourism and Archeology. For postgraduate studies, UJ provides 39 doctoral programs, 120 master's programs, 22 higher specialization programs in Medicine and Dentistry, and 7 diploma programs.

UJ focuses on creating a supportive and forward-looking educational environment to enhance the quality of education and keep up with technological advancements, labor-market demands, and entrepreneurial needs. This involves the integration of e-learning methodologies, digitizing educational materials, creating interactive lectures, renovating lecture rooms into smart spaces, and incorporating modern instructional methods like blended and online learning.

The university is also undertaking a wide campaign to send distinguished graduates abroad in all fields of specialization, recruiting distinguished faculty members, and launching a comprehensive campaign to develop curricula tailored to market needs, focusing on providing students with the skills necessary for the job market.

Available programs

UJ offers 100 bachelor’s programmes covering science, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, rehabilitation science, agriculture, engineering, information technology, business administration, Sharia’a, educational sciences, law, physical education, art and design, international studies, foreign languages, archaeology and tourism. Depending on the programme, teaching is in Arabic and English or mixed (Arabic and English).

Tuition fees range from $25,000 - $135,000. Bachelor’s programmes require secondary school education, IB, GCE, IGCSE, GCSE or equivalent.

UJ offers 165 PhD, master’s and MBA programmes. This includes 38 doctoral programmes, which represent more than 50% of the doctoral programmes in Jordan, 111 master’s programmes, which represent about 25% of master’s programmes in Jordan, and 16 higher specialization programmes in medicine, dentistry and three diploma programmes.

University information

To apply, students are required to have secondary education certificates. International and Jordian students holding foreign secondary certifications can apply after they obtain the equivalent certificate from The Ministry of Education in Jordan. For more information, see the university international student portal, admissions page and visa page.  
 
Admissions requirements: 

  • Any programme: high school certificate, scientific stream.
  • Humanitarian programmes: high school certificate, literary stream.
  • Other streams’ certificates can be accepted according to the available programmes. Find out more information on admissions requirements

Grade requirements:  

  • Faculty of medicine and dentistry: 85%.
  • Faculty of pharmacy and faculty of engineering: 80%.
  • Medical analysis and faculty of rehabilitation sciences: 75%.
  • Faculty of agriculture, faculty of law and faculty of nursing: 70%.
  • The rest of the faculties require a rate of 65% and above.

UJ is located in the heart of Amman and is surrounded by all types of accommodations, restaurants, entertainment, shopping areas and public transportation links. The official language is Arabic, and English is the first foreign language. 

The University of Jordan has one campus for its physical science school and then a main campus for its other schools. On campus they have a student transportation service, food services, a student clinic, library and sports complex.    

UJ has qualified academic staff who all work towards their ambitions to excel. Many of them have held key roles in academic, administrative and political fields in Jordan, some of them are ministers, advisers, deputies and heads of universities, while some have excelled in innovation, scientific research and literature. 

The campus has a student clinic. The Health Care Department provides services to students such as x-rays, laboratory tests and a pharmacy. Cases that require follow up are transferred to the Hospital of Jordan University.
