In the current context of growing urbanization and awareness of the need to preserve and enhance biodiversity, urban green spaces are now perceived as spaces of nature (similar to natural ecosystems), and no longer as spaces for a change of scenery. by exoticism. The landscaping sector is evolving accordingly, with an increasingly greater consideration of ecology . For example, the choice of plants is no longer only guided by aesthetics but favors local species and tends to take into account the possible interactions with the fauna and the surrounding soil and climatic conditions. Conversely, projects for the development and management of natural environments implementing the concepts of ecological engineering may require the eyes and expertise of a landscaper. The boundary between ecology and landscape becomes tenuous. However, even recently trained landscapers lack fundamental scientific knowledge of the composition and functioning of ecosystems, and ecologists are only rarely made aware of the landscape project.  To move in the direction of these developments, it is becoming necessary to train landscape ecologists capable of designing and managing spaces that function as autonomous ecosystems.
