Over the last few years there has been an extraordinary boom of genetics and molecular biology, two disciplines which have become progressively integrated so as to currently embody the core of modern biology. They are jointly used to investigate and understand the genetic-molecular bases governing the implementation of complex biological processes, such as the cell development and differentiation both in animal and plant systems. Moreover, the grasp of such mechanisms allows to understand how the malfunctioning of genes is linked to the onset of human diseases. To be qualified to practise, masters graduates in Genetics and Molecular Biology will have to register with the Italian Register of Biologists after taking the national board examination. Some job prospects for masters graduates may be leading positions for what concerns professional advice and planning activities in Civil Service, in the healthcare and public health sector, in biotechnologies. Masters graduates in Genetics and Molecular Biology may moreover become teachers in different types of public competitions, provided that they have acquired the specific additional requisites.
