Ohio University was established in 1804 in Athens—it's the first public university in the state. OHIO is a four-year, research university with Division I Athletics.

Through the OHIO Admission Promise, qualifying fall 2021 applicants can receive automatic general university admission to the Athens campus. If you earn a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade-point average, you're admitted (subject to eligibility requirements). And we’re taking that promise even further by offering, at minimum, a renewable $2,000 OHIO Admission Promise Award if we receive your FAFSA results by January 15. The application fee is also waived. 2020-2021 in-state tuition and fees are $12,612 and out-of-state tuition and fees are $22,406.
