Niagara University's College of Education has received approval from the New York State Education Department to offer a Master of Arts degree in developmental disabilities. The program, which is designed for individuals who are already employed by, or who seek employment in, agencies that provide services to individuals with developmental disabilities or other human service agencies, was developed with the guidance and expertise of community leaders in the field. Students may choose from two concentrations. The first is for individuals who are seeking career opportunities related to working with people with disabilities and wish to establish a firm experiential knowledge and skill base. The second is designed for individuals working in the field who wish to cultivate their leadership skills with a goal to work at administrative levels within the industry. Why Niagara University's Developmental Disabilities Program? Prepares students for employment in a variety of settings serving clients with developmental disabilities. Assists students in developing an understanding of the methods used in working with and supporting persons with developmental disabilities. Prepares students to implement behavior modification plans using positive reinforcement techniques. Prepares students to instruct and supervise persons with developmental disabilities. Enables students to observe and record data related to student behavior and work performance. Provides students with knowledge of the laws and guidelines pertaining to individuals with disabilities.
