LMU's Communication Studies major helps students develop an appreciation for the role that communication plays in building local and global communities based on fairness and equity. Majors examine interpersonal, small group, and social influence phenomena, among others. Informed by critical and philosophical perspectives, the program teaches students to become more effective communicators who use their knowledge and skills to enjoy satisfying personal and professional lives while helping to make a more socially just world. Our department fosters the development of the whole person, promotes a commitment to social justice and cultural diversity, and confronts the most pressing contemporary political, social, and ethical issues of our time. To this end, we prepare students to communicate effectively in the service of human dignity and rights, civic engagement, and global equity.
