Criminology involves the study of crime, including victimization, criminality, and criminal justice agents and institutions among other areas. The Criminology Program emphasizes a practitioner orientation, with a variety of courses that introduce and familiarize students with the Canadian criminal justice system. Three thematic areas of focus run throughout the Program’s course offerings: (1) social justice and human rights, (2) law and legal institutions, and (3) forensic science and criminalistics. This program is ideal for those aiming to pursue careers in law enforcement, corrections, and social work. This program may also serve as a preparation for law school, teacher education or graduate school. The 4-year Non-Direct Entry BASc Criminology Program has similar requirements to the Honours BASc (Criminology Major) degree, except that to successfully complete the four-year bachelor's degree students are required to achieve a 60% (C) average.
