Management Sciences are the technologies of scientific methods which provide a quantitative basis for the purpose of forecasting, planning, management and decision making in many business operations. The Department of Management Sciences contributes to the field of knowledge through research and education in two broad areas: Operations Research/Operations Management (OR/OM) and Business Statistics. OR/OM seeks to provide a rational basis for decision analysis across a broad spectrum of business functions such as production and operations, marketing, finance, human resources, project management, logistics, and supply chain management. Statistical methods provide analytical tools for research in business, industries and government agencies. Our PhD programme is formulated to prepare students for research and teaching at university level. The aim of the programme is to provide a strong disciplinary background in the core research areas of the department.
The majority of our recent faculty are recruited from the best research universities in North America, and we pride ourselves on the high-quality research produced by our faculty members. We measure ourselves against international standards and compete strongly in the global market place of educational institutions. Our high quality research was rewarded in the most recent 2016 UT Dallas (UTD) Business School Rankings, where the university is placed 28th worldwide, well above some of the world’s reputable universities. In the OR/OM area, Department of Management Sciences is ranked 1st in Asia-Pacific region and 21st in the world.
