Central
Mindanao University is a State University located in the heart of Mindanao
Island, Province of Bukidnon, Philippines. It was transformed from a settlement
farm school organized by the Americans. It started as the Mailag Industrial
School founded in 1910. It is one of the
oldest premier universities in Southern Philippines. In 1918, the school was
renamed, Bukidnon National Agricultural
School (BNAS) and offered the last three grades of
elementary agriculture curriculum. By June 19, 1965, Republic Act
No.
4498 catapulted the institution into Central Mindanao
University.
At present, the
university
has ten (10) colleges offering 33
undergraduate degree, 28 master’s degree and 11 doctorate
degree programs. The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) recognizes
the University as the Center of Excellence (COE) for the
four academic programs, namely: Agriculture, Biology,Forestryand Veterinary Medicine.
Likewise, the Commission also recognizes the University as the Center of
Development for Environmental Science, Mathematics,
and Teacher Education Programs.
In 2017, CMU
became the first Higher Education Institution in Mindanao awarded with
Institutional Accreditation (Level II) by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered
Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP),
Inc. Currently, the university is now ISO
9001:2015 Certified and awarded by the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) with 3-Star Rating.
To
date, faculty
and non-teaching staff are hand-in-hand in serving the students and
stakeholders of the university.
