Noncommercial joint stock company “Astana Medical University” (AMU) is one of the largest and dynamically developing medical universities in our country, has a high reputation in the field of higher medical education, its traditions, both in the provision of educational services and in the development of medical science and clinical activities. On October 26, 1964, the Council of Ministers of the Republic adopted a resolution on the opening of a medical institute in Tselinograd.  The number of specialties has increased, credit learning technologies and a three-stage education system have been introduced - bachelor's, master's, doctoral studies, the number of students has increased, active work is underway to introduce innovative technologies into the educational process. The clinical bases of the University are the largest national and republican. According to the Charter, the main subjects of activity of "AMU" are higher education, the activities of general hospitals, specialized hospitals and other medical institutions with inpatient and general medical practice. The main purpose of the activity of “ АMU” is to promote the development of the healthcare system of the Republic of Kazakhstan by creating the necessary conditions for obtaining high-quality education aimed at the formation, development and professional development of the individual based on national and universal values, achievements of science and practice. The adoption of new National projects in the field of healthcare, education and science in the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as the messages and instructions of the Head of State, protocol decisions of the Board of the Ministry of Science and Higher  Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan indicate the need to revise the format of medical universities, create conditions to improve the quality and effectiveness of academic, scientific and clinical processes and provide conditions for the training of competitive personnel, ready to respond to existing and future challenges to public health.

The main partner of Astana Medical University is Ariel University, Israel The University has signed several memorandums of cooperation in the field of healthcare with universities of far and near abroad (CIS countries – 45 memoranda; Europe – 37; Central Asia – 11), within which academic mobility programs are implemented for both students and faculty.

«AMU” offers 38 accredited Bachelor's, Master's and doctoral programs, which include 13 bachelor's, 20 Master's and 5 doctoral degrees. It consists of 7 schools: School of Public Health and Management, School of Medicine, School of Dentistry, School of Pediatrics, School of Nursing, School of Pharmacy, Research school. The educational institution develops its own educational programs.

There are 9485 undergraduate and internship students, 157 undergraduates, 101 doctoral students, including 865 foreign students from 20 countries.

In the specialties provided for by the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, a young specialist is obliged to work in a state educational organization and a state healthcare organization. "According to paragraph 17 of Article 47 of the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan ""On Education"" (hereinafter referred to as the Law) and paragraph 4 of the Rules for sending young specialists to work, approved by the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated March 30, 2012 No. 390 (hereinafter referred to as the Rules), citizens who entered training in pedagogical and medical specialties on the basis of a state educational order, they work out in state educational organizations and state health organizations for at least three years after the end of the organization of higher and (or) postgraduate education. For failure to fulfill the obligation to work, a young specialist is obliged to reimburse the costs incurred from budgetary funds in connection with his training to the republican budget (paragraph 17-4 of article 47 of the Law).
