The international studies major enable students to act competently and conscientiously within an increasingly interconnected world. Students acquire multiple perspectives on global patterns and local contexts through a broad interdisciplinary curriculum, while having the opportunity to focus on a specific world region, international issue, or subject area. International studies majors also connect their classroom-based knowledge to real world situations through direct foreign experience, senior research projects, and internship work. An international studies degree equips students to pursue further study and internationally oriented careers in fields such as government, business, law, communications, development and education. Learning Outcomes: Demonstrate a nuanced and comprehensive understanding of global issues through insights and knowledge gained from multiple academic disciplines; Develop the analytical, research, problem-solving, and teamwork skills necessary for advancing knowledge in preparation for international studies careers and global citizenship; Communicate effectively in both speech and writing across global boundaries, including proficiency at an intermediate level in a language other than one’s native language; Acquire lived knowledge of at least one country besides the United States through study abroad; Reflect on personal values, ethical commitments, and social positions through engagement with diverse cultures, worldviews, and experiences
