The Management and Industrial Relations major prepares graduates to enter the workplace as supervisors, operations managers, human resources technicians and start-up entrepreneurs. It prepares students to address the opportunities in the global job market appropriately. Research, special projects and independent study permit each student to fit the major to their personal interests, values and aspirations. Specific operations issues as well as broad management policy concerns are covered equally, assuring relevance of studies to entry-level positions and readiness for growth in any organization, domestic or global. Maximum flexibility in selection to fulfill major requirements is offered. After completion of core courses in interpersonal relations and human resource management, the student may elect courses in small business and entrepreneurship, advanced operations management, human resource skills and programs, labor law and conflict management, to complete the major. Students following an entrepreneurial studies track, for instance, would take the course in small business, advanced operations management, labor law and complete an independent study focused on preparation of a comprehensive business plan for a prospective business start-up. Students in the Bachelor’s Degree in Management and Industrial Relations program should consult with the designated undergraduate advisor to plan the selection and sequencing of courses to satisfy the major requirements.
