The School of Music offers programs in ensembles and conducting, music education, music history and musicology, music theory and composition, music media production, and music performance. It is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music. Concentrations are Organ, Voice, Guitar, Piano, Jazz, Symphonic instruments. The school offers four-year undergraduate majors in music performance, music education, music media production, and music composition. Admission to major or minor study in music is based on an audition in applied music. Undergraduate music majors are required to demonstrate proficiency in one or more of the following: keyboard, symphonic instruments (strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion), guitar, voice, or harp. Students majoring or minoring in music are expected to attend a weekly recital hour, other recitals, and to perform regularly on their primary instrument. All undergraduate music students must be in compliance with the mandated major/designated ensemble policy as required by curricula. A performance degree offers intensive and thorough training under the tutelage of faculty who possess a wealth of experience as performers and teachers. Our goal is to provide you with the practical knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in todayâ€™s competitive musical world. All students receive weekly private lessons. Students also receive significant performing experience in the orchestral, choral, wind, and chamber music repertoire through participation in award-winning ensembles. Students can also schedule full-length recitals in a leading edge performance venue. The Jazz Concentration with an entrepreneurial focus is the newest performance concentration offered in the School of Music.
