The University offers a bachelor of arts (B.A.) and a bachelor of science (B.S.) in textiles, apparel, and merchandising. This degree program prepares students for careers in textiles, apparel, and merchandising. Our graduates possess a keen interest in merchandise, an understanding of the world of fashion—plus the business and organizational skills needed for successful careers. Coursework includes a required core—plus courses in areas such as: Analysis of ready-to-wear quality Cultural aspects of clothing Functions of retailing Global marketing History of costume Principles of design Textiles Trends in retailing In addition, a work experience program is offered to provide hands-on experience in the retailing industry. To better prepare for careers, students are encouraged to complete a minor in business administration, communication (journalism, public relations), marketing, theater, or another area of interest approved by an adviser. To supplement their coursework, students have opportunities to attend retail conferences, participate in field trips to major market centers, tour retail facilities, hear guest speakers from retail industries, and visit relevant museum exhibits. Careers Our graduates are prepared for careers in retailing—one of the fastest growing fields in the United States.
