The QS World University Rankings by Subject 2021 will be announced on March 3.
51 different academic subjects will be included this year, following the addition of petroleum engineering, geology and geophysics to last year’s ranking.
1,440 universities have been analyzed to compile this year’s ranking, with over 13,000 individual university programs considered for inclusion – making this the most extensive subject rankings yet.
Each program is assessed based on a combination of data from research citations, and major global surveys of academics and employers. Our methodology page contains more information.
How to use the QS World University Rankings by Subject
The QS World University Rankings by Subject are the easiest and quickest way to understand which universities are the best-performing for your chosen subject. If you know what you want to study but are looking for help in creating a shortlist of universities to apply to, consulting the rankings table for your chosen subject will give you an idea of how different universities compare.
It’s important to remember though that rankings can’t tell you everything, and often the differences between two universities with similar rank are minimal. You’ll learn more about the actual differences in course content, campus environment, employment prospects and more from talking to universities at virtual events.
Many of the top-ranked universities from this year’s subject rankings will be attending QS Virtual Masters Events this year. Explore our events section to find an event for your region and learn more about the top universities for your subject.
You can also try using our course matching tool, which takes into account your individual requirements to suggest a university program that’s right for you.
Be sure to check back on March 3 to discover the complete results of the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2021.
