A private liberal arts college in New York City, Wagner College is home to approximately 2,200 students (1,750 undergraduates and 450 postgraduates). The college was originally founded in 1883 to prepare young men planning to enter Lutheran seminaries, and its early curriculum was modeled on the German equivalent.
The average student admitted to Wagner College achieved SAT scores of 540-620 in critical reading and 530-630 in math, while the average GPA score is 3.45.
Almost 90 percent of all students at Wagner College receive some form of financial aid, e.g. scholarships. Some of these are athletic scholarships, as the college has a strong record in intercollegiate athletics. Between 2013 and 2018, a Wagner College student won NEC Student Athlete of the Year six times.
Wagner College has also famously featured in several TV shows and films. Its exteriors were used in the Jack Black comedy School of Rock to stand in for the film’s fictional school, while The Sopranos and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit have also been shot on campus.
