The University of Wyoming's graduate program in sociology has been in existence for more than a half-century. It is an exceptionally strong one for students wishing to earn a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree. The program concentrates on building research skills and substantive knowledge, so graduates may move easily into a professional position or doctoral program (click here for bios of former students and here for information about career opportunities for Sociologists from the American Sociological Association). Our faculty members have diverse interests, and students are encouraged to pursue their special interests in the M.A. program (click here for recent thesis titles). We admit a limited number of students each year, so they receive a great deal of individual attention. The cost of graduate education at the University of Wyoming is very affordable, and many students are awarded graduate assistantships that substantially offset the cost of their graduate education. Program Requirements All M.A. students are required to complete: a core of three foundation courses (SOC5000: Advanced Sociological Theory, SOC5100: Advanced Sociological Research Methods and SOC5070: Statistical Methods for the Social Sciences), three elective Sociology courses, three additional elective courses, a thesis. The three additional elective courses may be taken outside of the department and may be used to complete a general degree in sociology or focus on a more specialized area of study. For detailed information on the M.A.
