University of the Cumberlands is an institution of regional distinction that offers undergraduate degrees in every major field of study as well as several pre-professional, graduate, and doctoral programs. With a total enrollment of more than 20,000 students, Cumberlands is the largest private university in Kentucky.
Cumberlands students come from all around the U.S. and several foreign countries. Classes are small to ensure each student receives the individualized attention they need to succeed in the classroom. To instill in students the desire to be agents of change in the world who use their knowledge and talents for the benefit of others and themselves, all Cumberlands students participate in community service by the time they graduate. Ultimately, the university strives to provide a high-quality, liberal arts education enriched with Christian values to students of all backgrounds who have dreams of pursuing higher education.
In 2018, the university launched the Cumberlands Commitment, with lowered tuition by 57 percent for on-campus students making it among the most affordable colleges in Kentucky. A year later, free textbooks were given to on-campus students as part of the same initiative. In keeping with that commitment to students, online tuition rates for both undergraduate and graduate students are among the most affordable in the nation. Today, as part of the Cumberlands Commitment, all students are offered the One Price Promise, which ensures everything a student needs to succeed is included in their tuition.
Recently, Cumberlands was awarded gold status as a Military Friendly® School, was re-certified as a College of Distinction, and garnered national recognition for three of its online programs by U.S. News and World Report. The Chronicle of Higher Education has also named University of the Cumberlands the third-fastest-growing university in the U.S.
University of the Cumberlands offers more than 50 online programs in degrees ranging from associate to doctorate. Cumberlands’ accredited online programs are designed to accommodate adult learners who want to advance their education without compromising quality. The programs offer the same curriculum as on-campus equivalents but are flexible enough to fit into busy schedules. The university has also been adding certificate programs to its offerings, allowing students to gain micro-credentials in a variety of programs. To learn more, visit www.ucumberlands.edu.

University of the Cumberlands offers an exceptional combination of affordability, comprehensive student support, and a welcoming campus environment, making it an ideal choice for students seeking a high-quality education at a manageable cost. At the heart of this value is the university’s "One Price Promise," a transparent tuition model that eliminates hidden fees and provides students with everything they need to thrive. For on-campus undergraduate students, the annual cost is $19,175. This inclusive price covers tuition, housing, dining, textbooks, laundry, parking, Wi-Fi, tutoring, counseling, and access to recreational facilities. Commuter students benefit from an even lower rate of $9,875 annually, which includes all student services except room and board. This all-in-one pricing structure allows students to plan financially with confidence and removes the stress of unexpected expenses.
Students living on campus enjoy added cost-saving benefits, including a full-service meal plan, utilities, internet access, and free laundry facilities. With all academic buildings, dining options, and recreational centers located within walking distance, students save on transportation expenses, eliminating the need for daily commuting.
Dining on campus is designed to be both enjoyable and budget-friendly. The T.J. Roberts Dining Hall provides buffet-style meals that accommodate a variety of dietary needs, while additional campus options like Chick-fil-A and Pete’s Eats offer quick, tasty alternatives at student-friendly prices. Even commuter students can take advantage of affordable campus meal options, often costing less than local fast-food choices. These accessible dining solutions support a healthy, balanced lifestyle without compromising student budgets.
Beyond financial affordability, the University of the Cumberlands offers an extensive range of services designed to promote academic achievement and personal well-being. Included in the tuition are free tutoring through the Learning Commons, career counseling, academic advising, mental health counseling, and wellness programming. These resources ensure students are supported holistically throughout their college journey. For international and out-of-state students, the university also offers a complimentary airport shuttle to and from McGhee-Tyson Airport in Knoxville, Tennessee, easing travel logistics and reducing related costs.
Cumberlands also places strong emphasis on financial aid as part of its commitment to accessibility. Approximately 96 percent of students receive some form of financial assistance, with an average aid package of $13,200. A wide array of scholarships are available, including the Patriot Scholarship, which awards up to $2,000 annually to qualified students. Additional financial options such as federal grants, student loans, and work-study opportunities further reduce the need for out-of-pocket expenses, making college even more attainable.
Located in the scenic Appalachian region of southeastern Kentucky, the university’s Williamsburg campus offers a peaceful, community-oriented setting that enhances student life. This rural environment fosters meaningful relationships and strong student engagement. A wide variety of student clubs, service organizations, and campus ministry opportunities enrich the experience, while the welcoming atmosphere helps students feel at home. The combination of affordability and community support makes time at Cumberlands both rewarding and memorable.
In every way, University of the Cumberlands stands out as a forward-thinking institution committed to student success. By delivering high-quality education paired with transparent pricing, abundant resources, and a supportive campus culture, Cumberlands offers a truly accessible college experience. For students seeking to balance academic excellence with financial responsibility, the university represents one of the best values in higher education today.
