History (Taught)

The course offers an opportunity to extend the range and depth of historical knowledge alongside gaining proficiency in research and project management; it provides suitable preparation for a PhD in history, and is also relevant for those pursuing a wide range of careers; it gives students who wish to study a particular aspect of the past in depth the opportunity to do so within the framework of a structured postgraduate programme; as a result, those studying on the programme are able to complete a large-scale research project built around their own interests but also develop advanced historical research skills; the programme combines taught modules with a substantive research project; research specialisms range from the Medieval through to the Modern, from the Papacy in the 11th century and 12th centuries to American-Soviet relations during the Cold War and encompass British, Continental European and American History; students have the opportunity to complete an extended history research dissertation of up to 28000 words.
