Earn a master's degree and gain the skills and knowledge needed to teach students with disabilities. This Special Education (SPED) master's program offers two paths: For those with a current teaching licenses - earn a master's degree and course credit needed to apply for an endorsement in special education through the Arkansas Department of Education AND for those who need teaching licenses - earn a master's degree and coursework needed to apply for initial licensure in special education through the Arkansas Department of Education. Courses are delivered via the Internet, allowing for the flexibility to pursue educational goals at a time and place that fits individual schedules. The required practicum course takes place in the public schools. Chosen licensure endorsements and graduate certificates can be embedded into the Special Education program, which received national recognition from the Council for Exceptional Children.

Admission Requirements for the Master of Education in Special Education include: A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education. For prospective students with a bachelor's degree in a field outside education the M.Ed. with initial license is necessary. For those students with bachelor's degree in education (e.g., early childhood education, secondary education) the M.Ed. with endorsement is appropriate; a Praxis Core Exam, GRE (combined verbal and quantitative scores of at least 301, a GRE analytical writing score of at least 4.0), or other approved Standardized Core Knowledge Test is required; Three reference letters; A statement of purpose and resume/curriculum vitae; Students should also be aware of Graduate School requirements with regard to master's degrees. Applicants must meet all requirements for admission to the University of Arkansas Graduate School, except the standardized test score requirement.
