  • The University offers courses leading to degree of BSc (Hons) Agric., B.Sc (Hons) Biotechnology, DVM, BBA (Hons), BS(CS) & BS (IT) in various specializations, under the semester system.
  • The duration of each Bachelor degree programme shall be four years (8 semesters) after F.A/Fsc., while the duration of DVM degree programme shall be five years (10 semesters).
  • There shall be two semesters (fall and spring) and, if and when necessary, a summer semester in an academic year can also be arranged.
  • Medium of instructions for teaching and examination shall be English except Islamic Studies and Pakistan Studies where urdu shall be the medium.
  • Islamic Studies shall be compulsory for Muslims with the option of taking Ethics for non-Muslims Students.
    1. Every student shall study all the subjects offered as listed in the relevant curricula. However, during the 5th, 6th and 7th semester of B.Sc (Hons) Agric. Degree programme each student shall take a minimum 5 credit hours as major subjects and 4 credit hours as elective.
    2. In B. Sc. (Hons) Agric. Part-III and BBA (Hons) Part-IV, a student shall seek admission to the specialization of his/her choice except B.Sc (Hons) Biotechnology, DVM, BS (CS) & BS IT which are composite degree.
    3. Granting of admission in specialization shall be considered by the concerned department in accordance with the suitability of the student for the specialization and the facilities available.
    4. After elective courses in consultation with the Chairman/Director of the concerned Department Institute.
    5. Students will not be allowed to change the elective subjects. There will be no credit for the courses dropped.
    6. Change of specialization will be allowed to students with consent of the concerned Chairman/Section Incharge and approval of the perspective Dean/Director within three weeks of the beginning of the classes of 3rd year (5th Semester).
  • The spring Semester shall normally start in the month of January and the Fall Semester in the month of August/September. In case the teaching in the University is suspended for some reason, the duration of the semester shall be extended for period of time elapsed.
  • Each Semester shall be of 18 weeks including registration and examination.
  • The University shall offer every required course at least once in an academic year.
  • The minimum requirements for each Bachelor degree Programme is as under:
    B.Sc (Hons) Agric. 149 credit hours
    B.Sc (Hons) Biotechnology. 149 credit hours
    DVM. 203 credit hours
    BBA (Hons). 132 credit hours
    BS(CS). 136 credit hours
    BS(IT). 133 credit hours
  • A course having 4 credit hours means three lectures and one practical of 2 periods per week.
  • Two examination shall be held in the theory part of each course, one iin the middle and the other at the end of the course, each covering half of the course.
  • If a course includes a Practical, the practical examination shall be held once, at the end of the course. A student shall have to pass theory as well as practical examination independently.
  • Where a course does not include a practical, the two theory tests shall carry 50% marks each.
  • Where a course includes a practical, the practical shall carry 30% of the marks and the two theory tests, 35% each.
  • A student of each degree programme of 1st year must pass each course with at least a ā€˜Dā€™ grade and maintain a grade point average (GPA) of 1.5. A student whose GPA is less than 1.5 at the end of 1st semester of 1st year may be prompted to 2nd semester on academic probation. At the end of the 2nd semester, the students must secure a minimum CGPA of 1.5 and must also have passed 50% of the courses failing which s/he will be given the option to get re-admission in the first semester of the same class or appear in the examination with regular students of the class to improve his/her grades for eligibility to admission in the next higher class in the following year.
  • From 2nd year onward of each degree programme a student shall maintain a minimum CGPA of 2.5 failing which the student shall be placed on probation for the next semester. If a student fails to bring up the CGPA of 2.5 during the semester of probation, s/he will be given the option to get re-admission in the first semester of the class to improve his/her grades for eligibility to admission in the next higher class in the following year.

MSc (Hons)/MS/MPhil Degree Program

The duration of the degree of M.Sc. (Hons)/M.Phill/MS shall not be less than four semester (02 years) and more than eight semesters (04 years). However, if the scholar fails to complete the degree requirement within the stipulated time eight (08) Semesters then the scholar has to apply for extension in duration through concerned Faculty Admission Committee (FAC), Board of Studies (BoS), then the case with proper justification should be forwarded through HOD/Chairman/Director/Dean to ASRB. The ASRB may grant extension in duration above 06 semesters for a maximum of 02 semesters (01 Year). There shall be no further extension beyond 08 semesters (04 years) and the student will cease to be on roll of the university. The medium of instruction and examination shall be in English, except courses offered in other languages. There will be two semesters in each year, (Fall and Spring) of 19 weeks each and an abridged summer semester of 8 to 10 weeks in each academic year, the commencement of semesters shall be regulated by the concerned University Authorities.

Candidates seeking admission to the course for the degree of M.Sc. (Hons) Agriculture/Animal Husbandry or M. Phil. or MS shall meet the following criteria of eligibility for submission of applications:

Four years Bachelor degree (after intermediate) with at least 56% marks (under annual system) or CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) of 2.50/4.00 (under semester system) with at least 130 credit hours from HEC recognized institution in the respective field of studies.

There shall be two semesters in each year (Spring and Fall), each of 19 weeks duration. Out of 19 weeks, 16 weeks shall be actual teaching time; the rest may be utilized for admission, enrolment, conduct of examinations, preparation and declaration of results, etc.

Doctoral Studies

Candidate shall be Pakistani national preferably domiciled in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province. Candidates from Federally Administered Tribal Area (FATA), Northern Areas (NA), and Chitral etc. if applying against reserved seats shall have to produce a nomination letter from their respective authorities against the reserved seats, before closing date. Applicants from foreign countries shall apply for admission as per criteria laid down by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Islamabad subject to fulfillment of all other requirements of admission for local students.

Eligibility Criteria

Master Degree (after 18 years of education) in the respective field of studies with CGPA 3.00 under semester system or 1st division with 60% marks or more under annual system (with at least 27 credit hours of course work) only one second division or grade C is allowed in the academic career.

Have qualified Graduate Assessment Test (GAT) in the respective subject by National Testing Service (NTS), ETEA or equivalent test with 60% score or International GRE (ETS, USA) in the area of specialization chosen at the Ph.D. level.

If test is conducted by the respective/host University, then a university committee consisting of at least three (03) Ph.D. faculty members in the subject area and formerly approved by the concerned authority will conduct the test at par with GAT subject test and qualifying score for this shall be 70%.

The test result will remain valid for ā€œTWO YEARSā€ for admission as per HEC criteria.

Procedure for Admission

Applicants shall apply through online system of the University of Agriculture (www.aup.edu.pk) on the date notified by the DASAR. Applications for admission to all programs shall be processed by the DASAR on the recommendations of Departmental Scrutiny Committee (DSC) and Faculty Admission Committee (FAC) as per schedule notified by the DASAR.

Duration of Semester

The period for completion of all PhD degree programs shall be counted from the commencement of first semester. The duration of the course for all PhD degree programs shall not be less than six semesters (3 years) and should not exceed than 10 semesters (5 Years).  The period of absence from the studies as well as freeze semester (if any) will be counted towards the total duration.  The degree program shall comprise of course work and dissertation.  All course work shall be completed preferably in the first four semesters but not more then six (06) semesters and scholar shall cease to be on the roll. The commencement of semester shall be regulated by the Deans' Committee in consultation with the VC.
