The establishment history of Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia started off on September 16, 1993. The university was formerly known as Pusat Latihan Staf Politeknik (PLSP). The core business of PLSP then was to train and produce polytechnics academic staff to become knowledgeable and skilful in various engineering fields. PLSP was upgraded to Institut Teknologi Tun Hussein Onn (ITTHO) on April 12, 1996. This promotion is an acknowledgment to the institution that has excelled in producing human resources for technical education. On September 27, 2000, the institute achieved another milestone when the Malaysian government agreed to award a university-college status to the institute. This was to recognise its contributions in science and technology-based development as well as in helping the nation to achieve its aspiration. With the new status, the institution was known as Kolej Universiti Teknologi Tun Hussein Onn (KUiTTHO) .KUiTTHO continued to grow and progress, producing graduates who were skilful, knowledgeable and competitive. Consequently, the Malaysian government, on September 20, 2006, agreed to award the university-college a full university status and changed its name to Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia(UTHM) on February 1, 2007.Visit us at http://www.uthm.edu.my

The Centre for Graduate Studies(CGS) is responsible for monitoring the implementation of postgraduate academic programmes in UTHM. It aims to offer postgraduate programmes towards achieving a high-income nation, and to nurture world class scholars through quality teaching and research. Currently, the postgraduate programmes include 10 Doctoral Research, 9 Master’s by Research, 11 Master’s by Coursework and 7 Master’s by Mixed Mode, as conducted by 8 faculties and CGS itself. The Doctor of Philosophy and Master's by Research degrees are research degrees by thesis under the supervision of experienced members of academic staff or a supervisory panel. The minimum duration of study is 3/4 years for PhD and 1/2 years for Master’s, depending on whether it is a full time or part time study. The Master's Degree by coursework programme is designed to extend the knowledge and skills gained from the first degree and to develop new professional skills in the student. The programme involves lectures, seminars and project work. The Master's Degree by mixed-mode is combination of coursework and research activities. The assessment depends on both the coursework and dissertation (research work), i.e. 50:50. For further information please visit http://ps.uthm.edu.my
