About TUHH Hamburg University of Technology

The TUHH is a young and dynamic technical university with around 100 professors and 7,800 students. It is anchored in excellent basic and applied research and thus radiates into the Hamburg metropolitan region and beyond.

The TUHH is a competitive, family-oriented and sustainable university with high performance and quality standards that strives for research excellence in basic research and its fields of competence. It is an internationally oriented university in the Hamburg metropolitan region, committed to the Humboldtian ideal of education. It contributes to the development of the technical-scientific competence of society by educating the next generation of engineers with modern teaching and learning methods and by promoting technology transfer and the establishment of companies.

The founding principles of the TUHH are unique in Germany: research priority, interdisciplinarity, innovation, regionality as well as internationality are obligatory foundations for our actions. The guiding principle of research, teaching and technology transfer is to develop technology for humanity with the strategic mission for „Engineering to Face Climate Change“.

RESAERCH

Based on the realisation that innovations and new approaches to solutions often emerge at the boundary between disciplines, the research structure of TUHH is designed to promote interdisciplinary cooperation among scientists. For this reason, the structure is not dictated by faculties or departments, but instead research is organised into five research fields. The research fields address important scientific, social and particularly relevant topics for Hamburg.

        Advanced Materials & (Bio-)Processes
        Aviation & Maritime Technologies
        Cyber Physical & Medical Systems
        Environmental & Energy Systems
        Logistics, Mobility & Infrastructure

The TUHH sees itself as an engine of innovation. It actively promotes dialogue between companies and scientists, especially in the Hamburg metropolitan region. Knowledge transfer to industry, business and civil society are important elements in TUHH's actions, as is the support of start-ups.
