The first and the oldest Oriental higher education institution in Asia, founded in November 1918. In 1990 it was renamed the Institute of Oriental Studies under the Tashkent State University. On July 15, 1991, it was reorganized into the Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies. On the 16th of April 2020 on the basis of the Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies, the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies (TSUOS) was formed.
There are 7 faculties where you can undergo study in various bachelor's, masters and doctoral programs:
1. Eastern civilization and history;
2. Eastern Philology and theory of translation;
3. Economics, politics and tourism of the Eastern countries;
4. Chinese studies;
5. Japanese studies;
6. Korean Studies;
7. Turkic studies.
At our university 14 oriental languages are studied, which is not available in any other university in Uzbekistan. In particular: Arabic, Vietnamese, Dari, Chinese, Korean, Persian, Pashto, Turkish, Urdu, Hindi, Japanese, Indonesian, Malaysian, etc., as well as 4 European languages: English, Spanish, German and French.
After graduating from TSUOS, students are fluent in one or two oriental languages and one of the European languages, depending on the speciality. The University employs and teaches specialists - native speakers from the countries of the East, the Department of International Relations is taught by professors with the ranks of Ambassadors from different countries, including the East and professors who studied at universities in other countries.
Huge work is being done in science development and scientific research support, particularly, our University has 2 research centres that are engaged in fundamental and applied research in the field of oriental studies, coordinate the integration of science and education, discussing scientific research topics and also an examination of doctoral dissertations .
There are also 2 scientific councils for the defence of dissertations in 7 specializations. So far, about 200 theses have been defended for Doctor of Science (DSc) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). In addition to this, the University publishes 5 scientific journals, 2 of which are in electronic format.
