The Software Engineering programme combines together widespread practical and theoretical knowledge in the development and management of large computing systems, with practical knowledge from industries that are using these new technologies with a special focus on business development and entrepreneurship.
The main aim of this programme is to produce skillful and talented graduates able to enter a wide variety of high in demand software engineering areas. It is clear that software engineering based industries will play a major role in the future development and economy of the Sultanate of Oman.
Learning Outcomes
PLO1 Discuss the conceptual knowledge of the computing theories, concepts and techniques related to Software Engineering at different levels of abstraction.
PLO2 Solve real world problems through software engineering principles and methodologies, and to creatively produce software artifacts using current tools and technique.
PLO3 Apply numeracy, algorithmic and information technology skills in developing Software Engineering models and applications in a professional manner.
PLO4 Formulate the computing needs to deliver appropriate software solutions.
PLO5 Communicate proficiently the advanced knowledge orally and verbally to a broad range of audiences.
PLO6 Develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions. PLO7 Function independently, self-managing and as an active member of a team to perform a required task.

The aim of the Postgraduate Centre is to enhance and sustain a culture of academic and research excellence by providing support to the acquisition of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for personal fulfilment and successful careers.  It provides the postgraduate students a wide range of supports that are needed to develop their dissertations/projects such as developing research skills, data analysis, communication and leadership skills.  In addition, the Postgraduate Centre works to support postgraduate students in getting fund for their postgraduate outputs and in getting national and international internships.  The following are some of the Postgraduate Centre responsibilities:

• Supervise all matters relevant to the admission, registration, and graduation of postgraduates at Sohar University.

• Provide support for postgraduate students in proposal and dissertations/projects writing and other research skills.

• Develop and maintain clear standards to select Sohar University postgraduates to participate in the delivery of SU undergraduate programs and/or projects.

• Manage dissertations/projects proposal submission, examination and defence.

• Work to provide outstanding learning opportunities by improving the quality of the teaching, learning and research environments.
