About National Tsing Hua University - NTHU
National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) is a leading comprehensive research university located in Hsinchu, a beautiful city in North Taiwan where is also known to be the heart of high-tech of this country. The glorious history of NTHU can be traced back to the first half of the 20th century. In 1911, NTHU was established as “Tsing Hua Academy” in Beijing, China. And then re-instated in Hsinchu, Taiwan in 1956 by the original President Yi-Chi Mei (1889-1962).
Over the last sixty years, NTHU has developed to an institute housing 12 colleges with more than 140 degree programs open for international students ranging from science, engineering, nuclear, life science & medicine, electrical engineering & computer science to humanities & social science, technology management, arts, education, semiconductor and more.
Based on a student body of 17,000 and a faculty of 2,000, NTHU provides a stimulating and nurturing environment where our faculty can offer quality teaching and conduct innovative research. Pursue For A Degree Program
For degree students, it usually takes 4-6 years for Bachelor, 1-4 years for Master and 2-7 years for Doctoral degree students to fulfill their academic studies.
Pursue For A Non-Degree Program
Exchange programs are based on formal agreements between NTHU and partner universities. Current exchange programs at NTHU span from Bachelor to PhD. students who are qualified will be admitted to the exchange program from partner university. Please refer to Office of Global Affairs' website for the list of NTHU Exchange Programs and relevant information.
NTHU owns two campuses, Kuang Fu Campus & Nanda Campus. There are more than 23 outstanding research centers located inside the campuses. Check the detailed location and get a glimpse of beauty of NTHU.
NTHU Library
To expand self-learning fields, NTHU library is indeed the best place for students to start finding related resources. The library includes the main one and four branches. Nowadays, there are more than seven million collections and provide a variety of space for visitors. Under the "University System of Taiwan (members: NTHU, NYCU, NCU, NCCU) " developed in last two decades, the four universities integrate their library resources so that NTHU students can easily borrow books across the above universities for free.
Chinese Language Center
Chinese Language Center open each level’s courses for different level’s students to advance their own Chinese ability from listening and reading to speaking and writing. Please refer to Chinese Language Center for details.
Professional Divisions
NTHU has corresponding divisions dedicated to all aspects of student affairs. For example, one-on-one career consultation provided by Division of General Student Affairs, mental counseling provided by Counseling Center, injury care provided by Division of Health Service when you encounter a sudden illness on campus and also guidance for all foreign students provided by Division of Global Students Recruitment and Service. Find the most professional assistance from the divisions in charge accordingly.
Student life
NTHU owns a very convenient transportation and there are multiple public transportation with stops right in front of the campus gate. For examples, by simply taking a highway bus for 1.5 hour, students may easily reach Taipei, the capital city of Taiwan. And for 1 hour to reach the Taoyuan Airport directly.
Inside the campus, restaurants in NTHU scatter in ten corners of this campus which offer a variety of food, from Chinese to Western style and even contain options for vegans. NTHU surely provides a friendly dining environment for all foreign students coming here. Also s hops are everywhere inside this campus serving all the needs students would require, including two convenience stores (Family Mart and 7-11), one Post Office, Laundry Shop, Book Shop and more.
Dormitories
There are 27 dorm buildings, 8,300 beds in total and are all available inside the school campus. Foreign freshmen will have priority to be assigned a space in dormitories. Please refer to Division of Student Housing for details.
Colorful Clubs
Over 200 student clubs are available which provide opportunities to develop students' mental, social skills and leadership. For foreign students, there are also specific functional clubs, such as International Students Association (FSA). Please refer to Division of Student Activities for details.
Newbie Program
For all international degree students, NTHU provide a buddy program: Newbie Program. It aims to create a friendly environment, helping students get easier adapting to NTHU through plenty of events and chances to interact with local students (the bee partners). Through these events, we're sure that students may integrate into this TsingHua big family quickly and make new friends in Taiwan. Career Development Center
The Career Development Center is in charge by Division of General Student Affairs. It aims to hold campus career fairs and company talks every March and October and provide services related with career consultation for all students. Welcome to visit their website for more information.
