The Materials Chemistry and Interfaces Master’s program aims to provide a fundamental understanding of all aspects relating to the development and engineering of materials. Students will enhance their ability to research, design, assess, implement and review solutions to the challenges facing our society across a wide range of materials. The main applications relate to energy, transport, electronics, medicine, nanotechnologies and health. The courses are taught by expert academics through formal lecturing and student-led coursework. Students will have access to top-level infrastructure when working on real research projects as part of established research groups. The Master’s program allows engineers and scientists from a variety of backgrounds (chemistry, chemical engineering, materials or physics) to build on their experience and expertise. It provides strong bases in engineering and sciences that can be transferred to the next stage of their career in academia or industry.

  • Completion of the first year of a Master’s program in Chemistry at Institut Polytechnique de Paris or equivalent in France or abroad.
  • Possess a solid background in materials science, either following the first year of a Master’s program in materials science, chemistry or physics, or Engineering cycle (second year) focusing on materials science.

    • PhD Track (Integrated Master and PhD Program)

    PhD Track is a five-year integrated Master and PhD Programs aimed at high-potential undergraduate students who know from Master’s level that they wish to commit to a scientific PhD. The PhD Track offers top students a selective and personalized curriculum with training periods at laboratories and opportunity to focus gradually on their thesis subject. A renowned professor oversees each student’s work.


    Entry requirements:
    PhD Tracks are open to students who have completed an undergraduate degree in sciences, engineering, economics or social sciences.

    Fees: For PhD-Tracks, the 2-year master fees are waived. Fees only amount to €243 per year.  Merit-based scholarships can be granted to the best students.

    • Engineering programs (Cycles Ingenieurs)

    Each School at Institut Polytechnique de Paris has its own 3-year (or 4-year) Engineering program. A highly selective entrance examination is open to international students who have completed at least 2 years of undergraduate studies.

    It proposes a customizable multidisciplinary education offering a broad scientific and technical knowledge in Institut Polytechnique de Paris’ fields of excellence. The programs allow strong interactions with companies and laboratories and include solid competences in management, law, economics and social sciences.

    Entry requirement: Engineering programs are open to students who have completed at least 2 years of an undergraduate degree in science (mathematics, statistics, applied mathematics, physics, computer sciences) or engineering.

    Fees for international students vary between €1,850 per year to €12,600 per year depending on the School and whether the student is European or not. International students admitted in the frame of international cooperation agreements may benefit from partial or total exemptions of their Engineering program tuition fees.

    There are a number of scholarships available at Institut Polytechnique de Paris including from the French Government or your country of origin. The Institut Polytechnique de Paris awards merit-based excellence scholarships for students enrolled in PhD tracks. Engineering students may as well benefit from grants or loans from foundations or alumni associations. Host laboratories will provide PhD students with research fellowships.
