The University adopts a policy of broad-based admissions for most of its programmes. This has resulted in the offering of 22 programmes. The number of majors offered by the University is over 45. Under broad-based admissions, students can choose to study in their desired Faculty/School and enhance their overall understanding of the disciplines in the first year. After they have studied more about different subjects of the disciplines, they can then make the best choice of major in order to achieve their goals. 

HKBU welcomes applicants from all over the world, accepting major international / regional / national qualifications. Our programme strength spans over 40 majors in arts and social sciences, business, Chinese medicine, communication, creative arts and science. Please submit an application on our online application system through the 'Direct (Non-JUPAS)' Admissions Scheme.

Local and non-local applicants with post-secondary education background may apply for admission to our full-time government-funded undergraduate programmes through the Direct (Non-JUPAS) Admissions Scheme. For example: c urrent students or graduates of an full-time Associate Degree or a Higher Diploma programme at an institution recognised by the University or a pplicants applying on the basis of academic qualifications recognized by the University (other than the Hong Kong Secondary School Diploma)

Its Graduate School, established in 2002, plays a major role in offering postgraduate programmes to meet societal needs, and in facilitating research advancement for the benefit of the humankind. Ever since its establishment, the Graduate School has grown rapidly both in terms of the spectrum of programmes offered, the number of students enrolled, and the diversity of research projects it manages. Currently, the number of postgraduate students accounts for approximately 40% of the University's total enrolment and there are also over 700 ongoing research projects, generating research outputs that attract international collaboration and recognition.
