Design a system; surface and subsurface operations to meet the required needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health, safety, and sustainability.
Design and conduct experiments as well as analyze and interpret data.
Identify, formulate and solve fundamental petroleum engineering problems.
Use the techniques, skills, and appropriate engineering software and laboratory tools, necessary for engineering practice and project management.
Function on multi-disciplinary teams.
Communicate effectively.
Consider the broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and social context.
Demonstrate knowledge of contemporary engineering issues.
Display professional and ethical responsibilities; and contextual understanding.

Find better lower-cost methods used in enhanced oil recovery (EOR).
