The Bachelor of Science in Earth and Ocean Science is designed to serve as a primary major for students who are seeking a future career in the earth sciences. This includes academia, industry, government laboratories, research institutes, NGOs, and K-12 Education. The B.S. curriculum thoroughly prepares students for graduate work in the earth sciences, including but not limited to fields such as geology, physical oceanography, climatology, hydrology, and environmental sciences. The Director of Undergraduate Studies works closely with students to tailor their coursework to the specific graduate program they are interested in. We have been very successful at placing students in earth and ocean science graduate programs across the country. The degree requirements also provide excellent preparation for medical school. Students who don’t go on to graduate school may also pursue careers in these areas: Petroleum or mineral exploration Research or policy making at government agencies such as the U.S. Geological Survey and National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration Research assistance at universities and institutes Environmental consulting, in areas such as hydrology and groundwater quality K-12 Education
